Physically, she was unappealing b/c her hair always looked like it needed to be washed. It wasn't the weight.) So it was a relief to see that her character in this film was more in line with the portrayal in the first film. Yes, she can be a bit of bumbler, but she has her moments and had more resiliency and humor.
I will say the change in Zellweger's appearance was initially distracting. It was hard not to try to puzzle out what she had done and why she looks so very different. (As an aside, I caught her on television promoting the film and she looked much more like her old self. I wonder if the film was shot too close in time to the work she had done.)
