A couple struggling with marriage at the 14 year mark - takes a vacation. The wife poses in many vogue-like positions, and looks longingly into space. The husband drinks - a lot, and sits in a restaurant - a lot. The scenery is beautiful. A young couple (not the main characters) move into the adjoining room, and are spied upon through a peep hole by the struggling couple. There are many shots of sea, and area surrounding the resort - these are quite lovely.
The characters are not lovely. Angelina's acting is really not lovely, although she looks beautiful in a series of negligees (not to mention clothing she must have purchased at a nunnery). It is a long time to watch (over two hours) two adults watching two younger adults, but it is hard to look away - like a train wreck. Brad Pitt's acting is really pretty good most of the time, and the other actors are also o.k.
Written, directed and produced by Angelina Jolie Pitt, By the Sea follows a writer (Brad Pitt) and his wife (Jolie Pitt) as they come to terms with issues in their marriage.
