Moana introduces a strong and independent new "princess" to the world in a Polynesian-inspired musical movie. I haven't been this excited for a Disney animated musical film since... The Lion King? I admit, I'm a little biased with this film. I'm from Hawai'i and by association, Polynesia. This movie is based on Polynesian culture and myths and Disney has created a completely new world that's grounded to the real one.
Right from the movie poster you can tell you're up for an adventure. We see a girl, this gigantic guy, and lots of water. You will come to find that each of those three characters has strong personalities. Something has happened on Moana's (Auli'i Cravalho) home island and she has to find the strength and will to venture beyond her reef and comfort zone. Along the way, she makes friend with a demi-god who has a personality fitting to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Add some super cute (and super stupid) animal sidekicks, some unique monsters, some wonderfully catchy songs, and you have all the ingredients for a fun time.
