My Daughter, Anne Frank 2016

My Daughter, Anne Frank 2016
With densely dramatized feature scenes, documentary and archive material, and surprising interviews with her companions, this highly emotional docudrama tells the very personal story of Anne Frank as it has never been seen before...

This film was different from any others done on Anne Frank. It starts with her father, Otto, arriving back at the Secret Annex after the war is over and knowing his girls and wife have died. Discovering that Meip in the office has saved Anne's diary, he starts transcribing it by typewriter. Today we know that her father edited out some sexual things and maybe some impolite things she wrote about her mother or others staying with them, and this shows him doing it.

He gets approached by the man who probably turned them in to the Gestapo, and we get a dramatization of Otto meeting the officer who arrested them. A fabulous technique was used when Anne was in her room thinking of something, and a film of what was happening on the outside showed life-size on her bedroom walls. It really got thru to me how overwhelming things were to her - to them all. Incredibly, some of Anne's school friends were found and interviewed for this film - people I've never seen before on any show, and I try to watch them all. They also showed clips of the real Otto Frank being interviewed on tv in the 1960's. He remarried, and his stepdaughter from his second wife is interviewed as well.
