Some reviews tended to knock this film as derivative or to predictable. I actually liked it (gave it 3.5 stars). The production values are excellent. The pacing of the movie is well done. The special effects are used sparingly and to good effect. What really struck me, unlike some of the other reviewers, was the quality of the performance between the two main female characters. It is true that a mother having difficulty with a teenage daughter has been a ripe field for horror movies. I thought the sensitivity that the two actresses brought to their roles really made their characters more three dimensional and added value to the film. The plot, while a bit predictable, was solidly managed by both the director and the cast. This is a decent movie worth watching, and deserves sequel treatment.
